Do you have to be at least 55 years old, with at least 10 years of continuous service in the Plan in order to be eligible for Health Care Benefits in retirement?

The CTA Pension and Healthcare legislation that was passed by the General Assembly and signed by the Governor on January 18, 2008 contains a provision that changed the eligibility for healthcare in retirement. The legislation requires any CTA employee who retires after January 18, 2008 to be at least 55 years old, and have at least 10 years of continuous service in order to receive healthcare benefits from the Trust.

However, the Board of Trustees of the Healthcare Trust has now been ordered by the Circuit Court to administer the health benefits with the eligibility factors in place on January 17, 2008 (before the effective date of the legislation). The Court ordered the Board of Trustees to use the "old" eligibility rules, until further notice.
